Evidencing teachers' personal skills forms part of the professional formation process for conferral of licensed practitioner status which is due to be launched in September 08. Work will now take place to identify eligible and excluded qualifications and other accredited evidence, and to provide a clear process for evidencing these. Click here for more info.

New research shows that more than 90 per cent of people with health problems can be helped to return to work by following a few principles of good health care and work place management tailored to the person's need. Simple measures that can help people return to work iclude:
1. Monitoing work related health and taking early intervention when possible
2. Creating an accomodating workplace and offering temporary provision of modified work.

WHEN "BEST PRACTICES" ARE NOT BEST PRACTICES
To trounce rivals, you should find a successful enterprise, identify practices behind its success, and mimic those practices, right? Not necessarily. This tactic can backfire if the practices don't fit your circumstances, even hurt your company. The lesson is: mimic best practices only if your goals and market circumstances resemble the other company's.

Newsflash of the week
A quarter of UK small businesses have seen a significant rise in their costs over the past 12 months, with one in ten suffering 25% increase, according to research by Creditsafe.
Businesses in the food/agriculture and transport sectors have been worst hit as a result of sharp rises in the price of commodities and oil. Simon Camilleri, managing director, Creditsafe UK, said "If the business inflation continues to rise we may see thousands of businesses forced to lay off workers, put a brake on expansion plans and even struggle to survive."
