3 Entrepreneurial Strengths That Can Also Be Weaknesses
Many of the qualities responsible for getting us where we are today can also hold us back. Watch out for these three double-edged traits:
Perseverance; Perseverance is an admirable quality of great entrepreneurs, but when confused with stubbornness the outcome is not so great. So how can you tell the difference? Be persistent in your vision when you have proof to back it up, but acknowledge when the data don't support you and you need help or re-direction.
Controlling interest; During the early stages of a company, the entrepreneur is likely to take control. But as the company grows, entrepreneurs need to learn to delegate as fast growing businesses quickly move beyond the ability of one person. Without proper delegation, founders can unknowingly limit the start-up's growth potential.
Team loyalty; It is natural to form close ties with people you work day in, day out on building a business. But loyalty cannot be confused with the needs of the organization, and as a start-up becomes a full-fledged business, leader must be prepared to make decisions for the interest of the company and not for personal or historical reasons.

Company director disqualifications on the increase
The research, carried out by City law firm Wedlake Bell, shows a 31% increase in the number of insolvent companies whose directors have had disqualification proceedings launched against them over the past year.
In 2008-09, 403 of the 1079 company directors were targeted for underpaying tax to HMRC; 37% of all cases and up by 14% over the last year. Criminal activity such as fraud or theft was behind the disqualification proceedings of the directors of 91 companies in 2008-09, a 72% increase on the number of cases in 2007-08. There also was a 42% increase in companies whose Directors were pursued for making a non-commercial transaction while the company was insolvent (such as transferring funds to a family member.)
Directors are also increasingly banned for creating Phoenix companies (e.g. transferring the assets of an insolvent company to another newly created company whilst leaving the liabilities behind, thus limiting the assets available to creditors.), with a 67% increase over the last year.
The total number of company insolvencies rose by 21% to 15,535 insolvencies in 2008 from 12,818 in 2007.
