Recession spurs potential Business Angels

It seems that the recession is having a positive effect in one area for entrepreneurs. While the economy struggles and interest rates plummet, there is an increased interest in angel investment.  With investors seeing much lower returns on bank deposits, many of the more wealthy individuals are considering becoming business angels.

Angels Den - a website that tries to match companies that are seeking funding with business angels has seen a 31% rise in memberships from high net-worth individuals in recent months.
With many of the usual funding options being closed to businesses to fund their growth, it is refreshing to see at least one route that might offer fresh opportunities.

MANAGEMENT TIP of the WEEK

Focus on the task not the clock!

Having trouble recruiting the talent your group needs to excel?  The problem may be that you're clinging to time-based work arrangements, like expecting people to be at the office from 9 to 5 (or longer) every day.

Today, many people want to work flexible hours and live more balanced lives and to attract and retain talent for your group, you'll need to accommodate this change.

One solution is to switch from time-based to task-based work arrangements.  Assign employees specific tasks, and require them to put in only as much time as it actually takes to get the work done. Give them the freedom to decide how, when, and where they complete their tasks.
